Laura is co-founder
of Deep Yoga, a yogic system based upon Hatha and Ayurveda
that goes deeply into the mind/body/soul connection delivering greater
self-understanding, purification, inner-healing and expanded consciousness.
In
private sessions and in classes, Laura guides individuals to their
heart - to their own infinite ground of being - helping to expand
awareness, master the mind and emotions, open fully to life, enjoy
greater self-expression and creativity, and live a continual experience
of wholeness, serenity and joy.
Trained
in Classical Yoga, Ayurveda, evolutionary modalities in bio-physics
that confirm what the ancient Rishis taught, and in Toltec
wisdom, Laura helps her clients heal and grow so they can become
the fullest expression of their true creative and productive self.
She
began studying and practicing Yoga intensively 9 years ago at a
retreat with Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, the prominent international
spiritual leader of the Siddha Yoga tradition. Ignited there, Laura's
passion for Yoga has led her to study a variety of styles of Asana
such as Iyengar, Anusara, Restorative, and Viniyoga - a form of
Yoga Therapy taught by TKV Desikachar. In particular, Laura is grateful
for her studies with Rod Stryker, Mark Whitwell, and Todd Norian
for the depth and passion by which they embrace and teach Asana
& Yoga, and Barbara Simon whose Toltec Yoga supported and encouraged
Laura for years.
Laura
studied intensively with Tom Stone, a long-time student of the Maharishi
Mahesh Yogi, learning Ayurvedic applications. She also studied Ayurveda
and Yoga with Sir Desikachar, Dr. David Frawley, and Bri Maya Tiwari
profound teahcers of healing and Consciousness. Jeffrey Armstrong
has been a guide and inspiration for his wisdom and teachings of
the Vedas, Jyotish and Mantra.
Shamanism is an ancient practice with technologies for healing the
individual, the community, the environment as well as body, mind
and spirit. It is the precursor to Yoga and the roots of Ayurveda,
which in turn is the root of all healing sciences. Laura spent one
year intensively studying Shamanic Rituals and Healing Technologies
under the guidance of Professor Bill Brunton, an eminent scholar
of shamanic cultures worldwide. In this time, Laura learned from
indigenous healers of the Amazon, Huichol Indians, a Chumash elder,
among others, and received a certificate in Shamanic Studies from
the FSS.
In addition, she is thankful for teacher don Miguel Ruiz, who interpreted
the powerful Toltec teachings into modern, streamlined practices.
Rita Rivera who instructed her in Toltec ways, She has also traveled
with Don Miguel Ruiz on "Power Journeys" to Mexico and
remains devoted to her Toltec mentor, Rita
Rivera.
Previously
the General Manager of The Discovery Channel Europe and later an
independent writer/producer of television documentary programs,
Laura produced non-fiction television for the BBC, National Geographic
Channel, Discovery Networks, German Television, Canal Plus, and
others, living and working in France, Spain, Germany, England and
the former Soviet Union before returning to America in the late
1990's. As a documentary filmmaker, Laura extensively filmed world
musicians for an on-going series on healing and sacred music, and
has studied and experienced first-hand the power of sound and music
to heal and calm. This experience now informs her Yoga classes as
well.
Laura
continues to study Yoga with Yogirupa Rod Stryker (founder of Pure
Yoga) in the Tantric Hatha tradition of Sri Vidya brought to
America by Swami Rama (founder of the Himalayan
Institute). She also continues Vedic and Ayurveda studies with
David Frawley.
Finally,
she feels infinite gratitude for the inspiration, wisdom and guidance
of Baba Muktananda, Paramahamsa Yogananda, and Anandamoyi Ma, and
all the friends and family who have supported and provoked her along
the way.
"My
purpose and my passion is to assist individuals on their path to
freedom so they can taste the nectar of unbounded bliss, experience
the peace of knowing they are already whole and complete, feel supported
in every endeavor, and know joy in all things."
