| Everything
about a human being has a purpose. All our elements are so well
linked, articulated and interconnected. We are intelligent creatures,
perfectly designed.
Even our emotions are perfect. Our anger, frustration, loneliness,
fear, grief all have their own perfection. Think about it, if they
didn’t have a purpose why would we have them?
Our emotions are like our radar system. They are always scanning
our environment and reporting back to us. If there is danger, emotions
report fear. If there is a threat, we might get anger. If we are
lost or separated from those who give us sustenance, we will feel
sad, or worried. All these emotions are giving us information that
is essential for our survival and our well-being.
If emotions are perfect then why can they feel so painful? And
how can the suffering they cause be “perfect?”
Suffering itself isn’t the perfection. But suffering is a
call to wake up and make changes. When we live in alignment with
universal forces and individual purpose, we feel good. When we are
out of alignment, we begin to feel an ache that is calling us back
to alignment.
At first this “ache” may be like an inner voice speaking
to us. If we ignore it, the ache becomes louder and begins to affect
our actions. We might develop habits we don’t like but feel
powerless to stop. We may feel stressed, irritable, confused, or
sluggish. If we continue to ignore this, aches in the body develop
and in the extreme, disease.
Given that our emotions are so important, learning to process them
– to get the information they are giving us, release them
and move on - is vital. Our bodies want to heal. That is what is
so amazing about us. Our bodies are programmed to heal, if only
we can allow it.
Ancient
Yoga taught technologies for this, which have only recently been
introduced in the West. The technologies are simple, painless and
profoundly liberating. There is no need for emotional catharsis,
and little explanation of the story behind the emotion is required.
Yet the results are deep and on-going.
Emotional Integrity is central to my work with clients. I myself
overcame deep-seated guilt, grief, and anger with these processes,
and because of them moved into a perpetual awareness of Pure Awareness,
which brings much joy where there was once confusion and sadness.*
So I know the power of this work and feel compelled to share it
with as many individuals as I can.
*For
this wisdom, I feel great gratitude to my beloved teacher, Rita
Rivera, and to Tom Stone, who insightfully interpreted the Maharishi’s
teachings and shared it with his students so generously.
