Mantra has come
to mean many things now in our western vernacular, but in truth
mantra is something very simple. Mantra is the repetition of sounds
designed to help an individual, overcome obstacles, expand awareness,
heal, grow, transform, awaken.
Mantra is the primary tool used in Ayurveda for psychological and
spiritual healing. It is used in Yoga to help link the mind to the
breath and to purify the mental field for meditation.
Mantra therapy is a proven powerful method for restoring mental
stability and clarity of mind. Here in San Diego, Balboa Naval Hospital
is using it effectively as a primary therapy for soldiers returning
from battle with PTSD. For a wonderful article on that, click

Mantra Meditation is the secret tool used by enlightened masters
since ancient times. Mantra is a powerful way to align with the
natural and cosmic forces and grow our own vibrancy.
Mantras come in two forms: as phrases or as bijas, which are seed
or monosyllabic sounds. Mantras are selected for an individual based
on his or her mental, emotional, physical condition, circumstances
and life goals.
Deepak Chopra calls it Primordial Sound Meditation. The followers
of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi call it Transcendental Meditation.
Bhakti Yogis call it Japa. Others call it Mantra Meditation.
However we call it, the process of repeatedly reciting sacred sound
is a powerful method of healing, of expanding awareness, of increasing
our potency in the world and establishing peace.
